Yet whisky, the world's most complex spirit, can be served in everything from highball glasses to goblets in Paris.

In 2001, Glencairn solved the problem of identifying the ideal whisky glass.

The Glencairn glass is the solution to all the problems of tasting young or aged whisky.

Designed by Raymond Davidson nearly 25 years before going into production, its development involved bringing together the master blenders of the five largest whisky companies and asking them to refine his initial design.

The result was The Glencairn Glass, a whisky glass... finally.

Designed to help educate the consumer and encourage the average whisky drinker to enhance the tasting experience of both young and aged whisky, it concentrates the aromas and has an optimal ratio for whisky oxidation.

The time and effort put into all this development was rewarded in 2006, when the Glencairn Glasses won the Queen's Award for Innovation.

The project received the Queen's Award for Innovation and went on to receive numerous marketing awards.

Today, the glass can be found in use by every distillery in the UK and Ireland and many others around the world, from craft distillers in the USA to Far East brands like Kavalan.
