To celebrate the event, Yesu Persaud, president of Demerara Distillers, allowed Luca Gargano to select some jealously kept casks in the company's "Paradis": Luca Gargano was able to fulfill a dream by entering into possession of the oldest barrels in the warehouses.
This rum takes its name from the plantation and distillery of Uitvlugt where sugar canes are born that are particularly loaded with flavors.
1997 was an exceptionally hot year and the sugary maturation of the cane reached unusual apexes.
This rum demerara Uitvlugt 1997 is an experimental rum, left to age for 17 years under the sun of the tropics in new barrels, has an Angel Share greater than 77%
A stock of only 5 barrels to be precise, experimental as specified by Luca Gargano.
Distilled in 1997 it is bottled, after the loss of more than 77% of the product, it is bottled full proof in 2014 in 1404 bottles.
Rum demerara Uitvlugt 1997 has been aged under the tropics, and is considered a light rum.
Tasting Notes:
Color: dark amber.
Nose: caramel, toasted oak, cake, mocha, bananas and dried figs, coffee beans, In a sense, it is rather delicate.
Mouth (clean): heavier, fatter, extremely concentrated, with a bit of mountain pine, bitter oranges, licorice.
Finishing: long, rich, honey.
