The Grappa "La Premiere" by Jacopo Poli is a unique, rare distillate, an Italian grappa of extreme elegance and character suitable for special occasions.

Produced with Merlot, Cabernet and Petit Verdot pomace from Château Lafite, the most renowned Chateau Premier Grand Cru of Pauillac in France, steam distilled and aged for 8 years in 225 liter barriques.

It is a candidate to become the most prestigious brandy of all time.

Never, to date, have the pomace of Chateau Lafite, the most expensive wine in the world, been used to make grappa.

Never before had the perseverance of Jacopo Poli, who for over ten years pressed Baron Eric de Rothschild, producer of the Chateau, to sell the pomace, been rewarded.

«In June 1995, during a trip to Bordeaux - says the owner of the Schiavon distillery - I met the baron, and in his cellars in Pauillac I tasted the premier cru of Chateau Lafite for the first time. As I smelled it, I thought about what grappa could have come from the pomace of this wine. I learned that those "sarpes" were taken to the only huge distillery in the Bordeaux area to make alcohol for industrial use."

For Poli, wasting such a good thing in that way was a mortal sin.

«Since then the dream of distilling the grape skins from which the most famous wine in the world is produced has not abandoned me - he continues - Every two years I went to the baron to ask him for the pomace, until in June 2007 he finally answered me " Oui”».

From there the step to getting to work was very short, so much so that already in October of the same year Poli put the pomace in the still, giving life to the first vintage of that brandy.

A vintage that has since been left to rest in 11 different barriques: five new barrels, five "wine" ones, i.e. arrived directly from the Rothschild cellars, with the aromatic residues of the Chateau still soaked in the wood, and one "camper" one .

Yes, because Poli brought a "wine" barrel home from Pauillac with his camper, in order to reduce transport times and keep the properties of Château Lafite inside for longer.

Once the "game" was over, the five spirits were presented to the jury, which declared the overall winner, called "Esprit de Pauillac La premier".

The choice fell on a 46% spirit, aged 40.4% in new barrels and 59.6% in barrels that had previously contained Chateau Lafite.

The marketing of Poli's "La Premier" grappa began in 2016 with a few bottles.

All bottles of "La Premier" grappa from the Poli distillery are numbered and contained in a precious wooden gift box.
