To mark the bicentenary of Lagavulin's birth in 2016, the renowned Islay distillery is launching a limited-edition bottle: the Lagavulin 8 Years Old, a single malt produced in honor of the most famous whisky historian of the Victorian era.
To celebrate its 200th anniversary, Lagavulin has decided to re-release a contemporary version of the 8-year-old whisky tasted by Alfred Barnard in the late 1800s.
Barnard, an Englishman from Essex, was one of the first and most important historians of distillation.
During a business trip, he came to Islay and tasted a Lagavulin 8 Year Old: in his travel journals, he described it as "exceptionally good."
He then adds that "there are few Scotch distilleries that use the spirit as a single [malt] whisky, and among these, Lagavulin is undoubtedly one of the best" - an excerpt of these sentences is printed on the label of the 8 Years Old.
After the enormous success of the limited edition, the Lagavulin distillery has decided to reintroduce the Lagavulin 8 Years Old single malt.
