  • Strathmill 25 y.o. 1988-2014 is part of the 2014 Special Release Diageo series.
  • Produced in very limited edition, 2700 bottles.
  • it is a Cask Strength matured in ex-bourbon casks.

Strathmill is one of three distilleries in the area of the town of Keith, Strathisla and Glen next to Keith.

Differently from the other two, however, it is not of Chivas Brothers Ltd. properties but is owned by Diageo that employs mainly for the production of various blends, such as the famous J & B.

Originally, the site was home to a mill built by A.G. Johnstone, named Strathisla Mills in 1823.

Following the whiskey industry boom, which occurred between 1890 and 1899, it was converted into a distillery in 1891.

At that time, due to the high demand for whiskey, were built more than 30 distilleries in the area.

In 1985, the gin producers W. & A. Gilbey bought the distillery and changed the name from Glenisla-Glenlivet than the current Strathmill.

Strathmill is made by the union of the Gaelic word "Strath" which means "lower valley, shallow" and the word Mill, in tribute to its former use as a mill.

Currently still operating, however, the Single Malt releases are quite rare.

Strathmill 25 y.o. 1988-2014 is part of the Diageo Special Release 2014 series.

Produced in very limited edition, 2700 bottles, it is a Cask Strength matured in ex-bourbon casks.

A unique whiskey, perhaps the one with the side "malted" more evident among those who've tried so far.

Very harmonious between smell, taste and final stands at a rather high level, while not assurgendo to heights of excellence.

Tasting notes:

Appearance: Pale gold

Smell: Very malt with notes of toast, oatmeal and popcorn surrounded by a thin layer of caramel. Vanilla in flashes, very nice, next to a balmy note initially dormant but which expands over time: eucalyptus. It also shows a nice side of cappuccino.

Slight bit of honey to top it all. With the addition of water, it emerges a fruity side, orange juice.

Palate: Quite soft, returning irrepressible cereals. There's also a hint of honey, very pleasant.

Despite the high alcohol content, it has a nice body.

It will be seeking the cappuccino note. The fruity side is faintly present but, with the addition of water, is reflected on the most complex, with a very pleasing result.

Finale: Medium long, to match with cigars like Cohiba magicos or Pit Bull Carlitos.
