Cladach - the Gaelic term for "shoreline" - is a mixture of ageless malt whiskey that combines whiskey of Caol Ila, Clynelish, Inchgower, Lagavulin, Oban and Talisker.
A blend of malt released by Diageo as a Special Release 2018.
An exceptional fact because it is only the second time that a mixed malt is part of the special release of Diageo.
Cladach means "coast" and whiskey flows with that theme.
For Cladach whiskey only single malts are used in the coastal distilleries: Inchgower, Clynelish, Talisker, Oban, Caol Ila and Lagavulin.
It is a whiskey that screams on the sea, balancing the maritime character with soft smoke and fruit.
Tasting Notes:
Perfumes: Initially soft and comforting with more aromas of fruit than smoke, an openly "coastal" character.
Mature citrus notes and a captivating creaminess, with the slightest whisper of smoke in the background.
With the time and the water appear dry spices, honey and wet embers.
Taste: Now the smoke is affirmed, with notes of campfire just off, but it is only a brief appearance before the tropical fruit and the scent of orange peel take over.
Notes of caramel and a passage of salt and anise.
As a blend, this Cladach is a masterpiece and shows the potential of blended malts to display their characters and their components, but combine them to create something more than the sum of its parts.
Highly recommended.
