Batch number 7.
Kilkerran is the small Campbeltown distillery, "cousin" of Springbank.
Batch #7, seventh release of the super peated Kilkerran, let's see where we are with this "Work in progress" from the Glengyle distillery in Campbeltown,
Kilkerran Heavily Peated Batch #7 is Glengyle's seventh release of a heavily peated single malt, for this age-free release, the distillery achieved a peat level of approximately 80ppm!
A peat level around 80ppm is only achieved by Octomore!
This whiskey has been aged, as for the first release, in a mix of casks divided into 55% ex-bourbon and 45% ex-sherry casks.
Attention Kilkerran Heavily Peated Batch #7 is bottled at full strength 59 degrees without being cold filtered and without adding colourings, a gradation for experts!
A very rare and at the same time very good edition of Kilkerran.
Tasting Notes:
Color: Liquid Gold.
Aroma: Peat smoke welcomes us to the nose with notes of sea salt and brine, followed by hints of honey and notes of orange peel, cooked apple and salted caramel.
Taste: Slightly spicy and decidedly lively on the palate the peat smoke is definitely present with notes of dried fruit, citrus, wax, olives and a slight metallic touch.
Finish: Kilkerran Heavily Peated Batch #7 has good persistence with notes of embers, dried fruit, tropical fruit such as mango and banana with hints of toast and brine.
