Erica scoparia, Castanàrgiu in Sardinian dialect, has a slightly reddish color and is resistant to fire.

The wood to make the pipe is harvested by hand in the Mediterranean scrub of Sardinia, and then worked in the Spanu sawmill in Alghero.

This polished briar pipe by Tom Spanu has a shape called Vulcano with a worked chimney and balanced dimensions. The mouthpiece is curved.

The long maturation of the heather briar allows for a low weight and a dry smoke.

The grain of the heather briar and its shine complement the design of the pipe.

Note the resin reinforcement ring between the stem and mouthpiece.

The clear resin ring closes the pipe and releases the curved mouthpiece, unusual for a volcano-shaped pipe.
