The Hayman family, famous for its gins, has created a rum mixing company, Charles Merser & C. the first based in the city of London for over a hundred years.
Here is his new rum, the Merser Double stem, unmixed rum to bring back those lost traditions and encourage a renaissance of interest in London rum.
Merser Double Barrel is a blend of rum from Barbados, Jamaica, the Dominican Republic and Panama which is aged and mixed in London for another six months before bottling.
Aromas of vanilla, tropical fruit and toasted oak fill the nose, and on the palate it offers notes of pineapple, mango, vanilla, sour plums, oak and buttery pastry.
Tasting notes:
Nose: you can't confuse that Jamaican component at the top, pineapples pop out of the glass, followed by grassy vegetable flavors, orange peel and dark chocolate.
Taste: creamy and elegant, with stone fruits in the foreground and Jamaican funk present but very much in the background.
Finish: vanilla, coconut and chocolate.
Overall: elegant, harmonious and distinctive.
We recommend combining Merser Double Barrel rum with an excellent Nub or a sophisticated Samuel Gawith.
