Hombo Shuzo Ltd is an old Japanese liquor company, founded in 1872.

Traditionally they were producers of "shochu", but in 1985 they built the Shinshu Mars Distillery in Miyata village, to start producing whiskey and brandy.

The whiskey was sold under the Mars Whiskey brand.

Unfortunately the demand wasn't great enough and they stopped producing the whiskey in 1992.

Then, in February of 2011, whiskey production was restarted at the Shinshu Mars distillery.

On August 6, 2014, Hombo Shuzo finally released the first whiskey produced since the reboot, the 2011 Komagatake Mars Whiskey The Revival.

Subsequently, a limited edition simply called Mars Komagatake 2021 limited edition single cask Japanese whiskey was distilled in 2021.

This is a whiskey aged four years, matured in ex-bourbon casks and finished in ex-sherry casks.

The Mars Revival 2021 Komagatake is not peated, and comes with a floral bouquet.

Only a few bottles have been released of Mars Komagatake 2021 limited edition single cask Japanese whiskey.

The limited availability and high quality of Mars Komagatake 2021 make this Japanese whiskey highly sought after by collectors around the world.

Tasting Notes:

Perfumes: powerful floral nose. Notes of beeswax and ripe white fruit.

Taste: Mars Komagatake 2021 single cask Japanese whiskey on the palate is fruity with notes of vanilla, before becoming floral, salty, spicy and honeyed.

Mars Komagatake 2021 single cask Japanese whiskey is excellent accompanied by a Toscano Millenium or a robust Drew Estate cigar.

The whiskey is still young and will certainly improve with age, but that's a good indication of what's to come.
