Beinn Dubh is a single malt produced by the Speyside distillery, the same that produces the excellent Spey.
In Gaelic Beinn Dubh means "Black Mountain" or Ben Macdui - the highest peak of the Cairngorm mountain range - so named by Professor Norman Collie after his solo ascent in 1891.
The Speyside distillery wanted to recreate the essence of the black mountain in a bottle, the water used for its creation comes from the black mountain, the barley instead is locally sourced while its color, a very dark ruby red, is due to finish in heavily toasted barrels of Port wine from the Duoro Valley in Portugal.
