Whistlepig 15 yo Straight Rye whiskey is one of the most sought after American spirits by collectors and expert whiskey tasters.

Whistlepig is a recent production company, with a history that has some peculiarities: founded in 2007, it is based in an old Vermont farm and has focused exclusively on the production of rye whiskey.

However, at the moment the more mature expressions are made with the use of rye from an undeclared distillery located in Alberta, Canada.

This is the first product from the distillery to be aged in Vermont oak barrels.

WhistlePig 15 Year Old Straight Rye Whiskey is a brand new expression that marks the distillery's oldest version to date.

Aged first in new American oak barrels, the whiskey is then "finished" for another six months in heavily charred white oak, harvested on the Bhakta farm in Vermont (due to harsh winters and a shorter growing season, these trees have a denser wood grain, giving a nuanced and distinct flavor to the rye).

As a result, WhistlePig 15 Year Old Straight Rye Whiskey has a roasted chestnut aroma, along with lots of oak and toffee.

The wood used comes from WhistlePig's farm grounds, while the shape and size of the barrels were designed by Dave Pickerell, the Master Distiller.

The wood is sustainably harvested and has narrower rings than classic American oak, imparting more flavor as it matures.

The WhistlePig 15 Years Old, is a rye whiskey created with a rare mashbill made from 100% rye, it was initially aged in classic American white oak barrels before being aged in barrels, also of oak but of Vermont Oak.

This whiskey was eventually bottled at 92proof. (46% vol.) And is Kosher certified.

Tasting Notes:

On the palate it is subtle and nuanced, with subtle notes of lemon peel that blend beautifully with cloves, caramel, black pepper and leather.

The finish is earthy and bittersweet, with strong notes of chocolate almonds that complete the whole.
