Shizuoka Contact S Japanese single malt is the third whiskey to come out of the Shizuoka distillery.
Contact S is made with a combination of whiskey from the ex-Karuizawa pot still and their wood-fired still, and matured for three years in first-fill bourbon and quarter casks.
The distillery is one of the fastest rising stars in Japanese whiskey.
His initial claim to fame was the purchase of the former Karuizawa stills.
They've since proven it wasn't just a gimmick.
One of their latest releases is the Shizuoka Contact S, which combines two of the different styles of spirits produced in the distillery and is considered among the best single malt whiskeys in the world.
The distillery is located high in the Japanese mountains in Shizuoka's Tamagawa district, not far from Mount Fuji.
The architecture is modern, and Taiko Nakamura, founder of Shizuoka and president of Gaia Flow, has gone to great lengths to make the distillery stand out in multiple ways.
Not only the appearance of the building, but also in terms of Shizuoka production.
Shizuoka Contact S is produced with distillate from the former Karuizawa still and wood-fired still.
It was aged primarily in first-fill bourbon casks and quarter casks, and was brewed using Japanese malt, peated and unpeated Scottish malt, and German ale malt.
Only 5,000 bottles were released.
