The fifth official release of Lochlea, Farm Distillery from the south of Scotland, is called "Ploughing Edition".
This is the fourth bottling of the first annual series of 'seasonal' limited editions, thus pandering to the passage of time that the cultivation of the land imposes.
The Ploughing Edition draws inspiration from winter, when fields are plowed in preparation for spring planting.
Ploughing Edition is the first Lochlea whiskey aged in ex-Laphroaig barrels, therefore with delicately but indisputably peated notes: Ploughing Edition has been personally supervised by John Campbell, and is bottled at 46%, without cold filtering or artificial colouring.
Lochlea Farm was bought in 2006 by Neil McGeoch and at least initially the idea of distilling single malt was not contemplated, on the farm they only thought of cereals and cattle breeding.
The McGeoch family, in fact, has a long experience in growing barley to supply the whiskey industry.
Over time, however, the idea of opening one's own distillery became stronger and stronger, and this is how the distillation license was requested in 2014, while the distillery was built in 2017.
