Kilkerran is the small Campbeltown distillery, "cousin" of Springbank, owned by Mitchell's Glengyle Ltd.
Batch #8, eighth release of the super peated Kilkerran, let's see where we are with this “Work in progress” from the Glengyle distillery in Campbeltown,
Kilkerran Heavily Peated Batch #8 is the seventh release of a heavily peated single malt by Glengyle, for this age-neutral release, the distillery achieved a peat level of approximately 80 ppm!
A peat level of around 80ppm is only achieved by Octomore, another super peated Scottish whisky!
This whiskey was aged in a mix of barrels divided into 55% ex-bourbon barrels and 15% ex-sherry.
Attention Kilkerran Heavily Peated Batch #8 is bottled at full strength 58 degrees without being cold filtered and without the addition of colorings, a strength for experts!
A very rare and at the same time very good edition of Kilkerran.
Tasting Notes:
Color: Liquid gold.
Aroma: The nose welcomes peat smoke with notes of sea salt and brine, then come hints of honey and notes of cooked apple, candied citrus fruits and salted butter.
Taste: Slightly spicy and decidedly lively on the palate, the peat smoke is definitely present with notes of dried fruit, acacia honey, citrus, olives and a light touch of vanilla.
Finish: Kilkerran Heavily Peated Batch #8 has good persistence, we recommend pairing it with a Kentuky fired curred tobacco cigar.
