Special limited edition of Big Peat peated malt whiskey aged 10 years and produced for the Rugby World Cup.
This particular Big Peat whiskey has a nice label with our Mr Big Peat in a blue Scotland shirt and the rugby field in the background.
Douglas Laing's Big Peat 10 Year Whiskey is a blend of peated Single Malts coming exclusively from the legendary island of Islay containing small portions of the spirits of Ardberg, Caol Ila, Bowmore and, surprisingly, also of Port Ellen.
This is possible as Douglas Laing is in possession of one of the largest stocks of the Port Ellen distillery which ceased operations way back in 1983.
From this clever mix of peated whiskeys from the island of Islay aged for 10 years, Big Peat is born with a peat of 40ppm.
An unusual detail that makes this product incredible is that no “vatted malt” label tends to indicate selected malts.
It is a blended whiskey that is not cold filtered, not colored and obtained from what are called Small Batches, i.e. small batches of barrels carefully selected to guarantee quality and rarity.
The production of this Big Peat rugby edition Small Batch is approximately 2000 bottles, a discontinuous production, which is why Big Peat 10 years is highly sought after and coveted by peated whiskey tasters.
Big Peat 10 Year Whiskey has been awarded numerous awards including 98 points from Murray's famous Whiskey Bible.
A real point of reference for the "Vatted" of Islay, big peat is an exceptional peat, in which the softness of vanilla and the timbre of peat mix and coexist splendidly, giving us an unmissable bottle.
Tasting Notes:

Overall: Amazing. There are elements of some great Port Ellen whiskies.
Big Peat 10 year whiskey is to be combined with Montecristo special Edition or for pipe smokers a relaxing Peterson Night Cap.
