After a long silence about the distillery, the distillery's master distillers are launching a special series of the already well-known 'The Wild Island Edition' to the rum market to celebrate the distillery's 150th birthday.
Four new rums with very different taste profiles have been created.
Rum Savanna 13 Years Old The Wild Island Edition Wave 2006 cask n.985 is a traditional molasses rum.
It is matured in the tropics for 13 years in ex-Cognac and ex-Calvados barrels and saw a limited release of 720 bottles in 2021.
Savanna is a rum distillery in the French overseas department of Réunion, an island near Madagascar.
It was founded in 1870 in Saint-Paul, on the west coast of the island.
In 1992, the distillery moved to the site of the Bois-Rouge sugar factory, in the northeast of the island.
Every part of the process takes place on site, from harvesting the sugar cane to bottling the rum.
The Wild Island Edition series highlights the natural beauty of Réunion.
The Wild Island range is the new project through which the Savanna distillery wants to tell the world about the wild nature of the volcanic Île de la Réunion.
Savanna is the only distillery in the world that has been producing and marketing both cane juice and molasses for years, coming from the Bois Rouge cane type; each phase of the process is scrupulously controlled by Master Distiller Laurent Broc.
The Wild Island Edition is an intriguing journey through the secrets of a fascinating island, to discover exceptional Single Cask rums, aged in various types of barrels and strictly in a tropical climate.
Tasting Notes:
Colour: It has a beautiful, bright, intense red amber colour. A colour that inspires respect, classy, elegant and yet so opulent.
Aromas: It has many fruity nuances on the nose. Apples, pears, a hint of vanilla and warm wood make you want more.
Taste: On the palate it seems a little heavier compared to the light aromas on the nose. It recalls earthy and mineral tones, but then the fresh aromas return at the end. Sweet sugar cane, vanilla and here the aroma of Calvados emerges more clearly. In the finish, there are more bitter wood aromas and some notes reminiscent of orange.
