  • A new release from Monkey Shoulder that you absolutely must not miss.

Monkey Shoulder Smokey is a creamy and smooth blended whisky with smooth malty notes and a light but elegant peaty note.

A superb peated vated whisky created by William Grant and made with a blend of single malts from Dufftown distilleries: Glenfiddich, Balvenie and Kininvie.

The term ‘Monkey Shoulder’ – literally ‘monkey shoulder’ – tells us a lot about the early whisky production, and certainly makes up their historical legacy. It is a reference to the physical condition that ‘maltmen’ often went into after years of intense work, spent turning by hand the piles of germinating barley. This continuous practice caused the workers to deform the arm that held the spade, making it hang down like a monkey... hence the nickname 'monkey shoulder'.

Today, fortunately, working conditions have improved, and the nickname Monkey Shoulder survives as an affectionate tribute to the maltmen of the past, who built a solid tradition for those of today.

Monkey Shoulder is the only whisky made with 100% malt that combines a triple blend of Speyside single malts, all coming from a production in small batch peated, assembling relatively small batches of casks.

Monkey Shoulder smokey is produced in small batches with a blend selected from time to time by Brian Kinsman, the family Malt Master.

The three peated and non-peated whiskies that make up the blend are all matured in ex-bourbon barrels.

Monkey Shoulder Smokey rightfully enters the list of whiskies that should never be missing from the home.

You will understand why by tasting it, and if you have already tried it, you already know the reason.

It is a whisky from the William Grant & Sons family, born with the desire to create a modern and revolutionary whisky in the world of mixology.

Tasting Notes:

Colour: light amber, honey.

Aromas: on the nose it expresses itself with notes of tropical fruit such as melon and mango, then vanilla and licorice, candied pear and peanuts, with a light smokiness in the background.

Taste: vigorous, creamy and enveloping, it shows a delicious contrast between sweetness and peat, to close long and persistent on candied ginger and caramel.
