This Kilchoman Sanaig Cask Strength single malt, ex-bourbon and ex-sherry cask, is a very special edition from this Islay distillery.
Made only with local barley grown on the farm, it is malted and smoked on site.
Kilchoman Sanaig Cask Strength is aged for years in ex-bourbon casks and subsequently in Oloroso sherry casks for an extended period. It is bottled at its full strength of 57.8% ABV.
Sanaig takes its name from a rocky inlet not far from the distillery on the western promontory of the island of Islay.
The latest release of the excellent Kilchoman Sanaig Cask Strength, this single malt is matured approximately 20% in ex-bourbon casks and 80% in ex-Oloroso Sherry casks. Bottled at full strength, it is not chill-filtered, and its amber color is natural.
The nose is peaty, a very balanced smoke, with notes of fruit, orange jam, and spices.
The nose is rich and deep, perfectly and harmoniously combining the flavors of bourbon, vanilla, and honey with the aromas of sherry and notes of peat and spices.
The finish is long, sweet, and persistent, balanced, unforgettable. We recommend adding a few drops of water to temper the remarkable 57% ABV.
The Kilchoman Sanaig Cask Strength ex-Bourbon and Sherry Cask edition won a medal at the International Wine and Spirit Competition and is highly sought after by peated whisky enthusiasts.
Tasting Notes:
Color: Dark amber with rich glyceride arches.
Aroma: Balanced and unobtrusive peat notes blend with jam, marmalade, and ripe fruit.
Taste: Thick and full. Biscuit, Plasmon biscuit, and then soft, velvety, harmonious peat.
Kilchoman Sanaig ex-Bourbon and Sherry Cask pairs well with an excellent cigar, chocolate, or fresh citrus for a heavenly tasting experience.
