Discover the sixth edition of Traigh Bhan, a series of rare, small, numbered batches.
The name of this collection is inspired by Traigh Bhan beach on Islay, also known as "Singing Sands" by the island's inhabitants.
Traigh Bhan, meaning "the singing sands" in Gaelic, is a stunning beach on Islay, dotted with jagged volcanic rocks, whose soft white sands seem to sing as visitors pass by, in tune with the winds and tides.
This rare Single Malt is crafted in small batches under the supervision of Master Distiller Colin Gordon, after aging for 19 years in ex-Oloroso sherry and ex-bourbon casks. Each Ardbeg 19 YO release features a batch number on the label, which includes the age of the youngest spirit used. The symbol on the label changes annually and is inspired by various industrial features, rivets, and joints at the distillery.
Each single malt is aged for 19 years in Oloroso Sherry and Bourbon casks.
The Traigh Bhan collection reveals the unique evolution of Ardbeg whiskies and craftsmanship over the years.
This Batch No. 6 is the quintessential Traigh Bhan.
Traigh Bhan Batch 6 is carefully crafted from peated barley and pure Islay water, before being aged for 19 years in carefully selected Oloroso Sherry and Bourbon casks.
The Sherry casks impart rich, spicy notes, while the Bourbon casks add sweet, vanilla nuances. This long maturation process allows the aromas to concentrate, creating a perfect balance between power and complexity that makes this Single Malt Whisky unique.
This whisky stands out for its paradoxical balance between the complexity of peat and a surprising smoothness.
Tasting Notes:
Color: A beautiful, bright gold.
Nose: From the opening, the nose reveals an original and intense character with aromas of olive oil, tar, and soot, combined with hints of chocolate-wrapped ginger and freshly cut grass.
Palate: On the palate, the experience is slightly oily with a minty, enveloping sweetness. The palate is filled with flavors of toasted bread, creosote, and smoked pineapple, intertwined with nuances of dark chocolate, peppermint cream, and burning embers.
This complexity culminates in a finish reminiscent of coffee grounds and licorice, leaving a lingering and memorable finish.
