Rosebank 16 y.o. Cadenhead: A Throwback in a Glass.
A rare bottling of Rosebank whisky from W. Cadenhead, a 1991 vintage aged for 16 years in Hogshead Bourbon casks.
This Rosebank whisky was bottled in 2008 for the final edition of the Closed Distilleries Collection series, with only 230 bottles.
Among whisky enthusiasts, the name Rosebank evokes a mix of nostalgia and respect.
Closed since 1993, this Lowland distillery is legendary for its floral and delicate style.
The name Rosebank distillery originates from the roses that bloom on the banks of the canal near the distillery.
Rosebank distillery was known for producing a floral and light malt, highly regarded by renowned industry experts.
Michael Jackson, in his Malt Whisky Companion, calls it the "finest example of a Lowland malt," and the authoritative Jim Murray considers it the top-of-the-line Lowlander whisky.
It should also be noted that, in typical Lowland tradition, the whisky was triple distilled.
This was a significant loss for all lovers of its floral and fruity character.
Plans were made to reopen the Rosebank distillery, but following the theft of the original stills, the idea appears to have been permanently shelved.
Fortunately, independent bottlers like Cadenhead, drawing from their stocks of Rosebank whisky, can offer us a taste of this distillery's whisky.
Every bottle left on the market is a piece of history, and the Rosebank 16 y.o. vintage 1991 Cadenhead is no exception.
This single malt was distilled in 1991, shortly before its closure, and aged for 16 years in a single hogshead bourbon cask before being bottled in 2008.
The use of a single cask allowed us to capture the pure essence of Rosebank spirit, uninfluenced by other influences.
With only 230 produced, each bottle is a true rarity.
Those lucky enough to taste it describe it as a unique sensory experience: an aromatic profile that combines the sweetness of vanilla and honey, typical of bourbon aging, with Rosebank's classic citrus, freshly cut grass, and floral notes.
A true tribute to the delicacy and elegance that have made this distillery famous.
Tasting Notes:
Hints of lavender, rose petals, and beeswax. The palate features black pepper with hints of red apple, orange peel, and almonds, complemented by a creamy hint of milk chocolate.
Rosebank whisky bottled by W. Cadenhead is a truly exceptional product.
A unique bottle!
