This 2002 La Réserve du Château rum is therefore signed La Favorite, a small independent distillery in Martinique.
"Réserve du Château" was produced in Martinique at the La Favorite distillery.
It was distilled in small batches in 2002 from sugarcane juice using a column still and then aged for 12 years.
It was aged in 12-year-old oak barrels under the watchful eye of cellar master Robert Charles.
Each year, this Réserve du Château cuvée is limited to a maximum of 10,000 bottles, which are hand-waxed.
In 2014, the year of bottling, two different bottle formats were released: a black one with embossed drops and a simpler transparent one, leftover from the old bottles used in previous years.
The one for sale, shown in the photo, is part of the old stock with transparent bottles clearly showing the rum contents.
La Favorite is one of the last independent distilleries in Martinique, along with Neisson.
The La Favorite distillery produces rum following the purest of traditional Martinique rum-making recipes, namely in oak barrels where the more aggressive tannins have been softened by previous use for storing whisky or cognac.
It is in these barrels, carefully selected for their ability to release aromas of maturation and evolution, that this 2002 La Favorite Réserve du Château rum will acquire the specific and generous aromas of its unique bouquet.
The 2002 Rhum Agricole from La Réserve du Château is captivating at first sip.
Furthermore, the beautiful transparent bottle of rum from the La Favorite distillery is finished with a sealing wax seal.
