GlenAllachie 17 Year Old Mizunara & Oloroso: An Exploration of Elegance and Complexity.
The GlenAllachie 17 Year Old, aged in Mizunara and Oloroso casks, represents a masterpiece of Scottish distilling, a blend of tradition and innovation.
This refined expression embodies the mastery of GlenAllachie's artisans, offering a rich, complex, and enveloping tasting experience.
Released in late 2024, this bottling marked the debut of the Masters of Wood series, which aims to showcase Master Distiller Billy Walker's expertise in wood management.
Maturation took place between Mizunara hogsheads (known for the difficulty of creating casks due to the oak's shape) and ex-Oloroso sherry casks, including puncheons and hogsheads. A total of 4,380 bottles were produced.
Maturation in Mizunara casks, a Japanese oak known for its fragility and distinctive aromas, gives the whisky spicy notes of vanilla, and subtle hints of incense and resin.
This maturation blends harmoniously with the influences of Oloroso, a type of Spanish sherry, which gives the whisky hints of dried fruit, dark chocolate, and a pleasant overall sweetness.
The result is a deep amber-colored whisky with a complex aromatic bouquet that releases hints of dried figs, exotic spices, and a subtle touch of leather.
On the palate, it is distinguished by a velvety texture, balanced between sweetness, spice, and a subtle smoky note.
GlenAllachie 17 Y.O. Mizunara & Oloroso is ideal for connoisseurs seeking a whisky of character and elegance, perfect both neat and as a special ingredient in sophisticated cocktails.
Its complexity and depth make it an excellent choice for celebrating special occasions or enriching one's collection of high-end spirits.
A full, complex, rich, flawless drink, an example of what Walker can do with wood while working with barrels already in the distillery's warehouses.
