Irishman Charles Peterson began making briar pipes and invented the famous Standard System reservoir in 1890.

This is a reservoir in the shank under the bowl that keeps the tobacco smoke dry.

All moisture—this is the goal—is channeled into the reservoir.

The "53" Lovat Deluxe Classic Terracotta is a perfect example: a classic shape through and through.

This tobacco pipe is made quite compact, while maintaining a substantial structure along the shank and transition, and housing a respectable combustion chamber.

As the oldest operating pipe factory in the world, Peterson often draws on its historic heritage to perfectly balance modern innovation and traditionalism, and the Deluxe Classic line embodies this approach, offering a series of pipes inspired by the vintage aesthetic of historic Peterson catalogs.
