This wonderful continental peat from St. Fergus has a surprisingly sweet flavor, very different from what one would expect from coastal peat.
The Sherry One from Meikle Tòir is a single malt made with continental peat from St. Fergus, a sweeter and more grassy variety than that found on the coast.
The barley was peated to 35 ppm, and then the whisky was aged in a combination of first-fill ex-bourbon casks and select Pedro Ximénez and Oloroso Sherry Puncheon casks.
“The Sherry One” is the most elaborate expression of the GlenAllachie line of five-year-old peated single malts, designed to express the more intense side of the distillery's smoky profile without overpowering its fruity undertones.
The Meikle Tòir range (meaning "great chase" and pronounced mee-kuhl tor) includes peated whisky produced at the GlenAllachie distillery under the guidance of legendary master distiller Billy Walker.
It is bottled at 48% ABV without chill filtration or additional coloring.
A beautifully clean peat, rich in character but not overpowering, drinkable but not banal.
An excellent gift idea for lovers of peated single malt whiskies.
