Tsuge regularly produces elegant and intriguing interpretations of classic profiles that reinterpret timeless lines in a variety of ways.
The Tsuge System Calabash pipe is one of the brand's most striking reinterpretations of these classic pieces, while retaining all the essential elements that make the Calabash so iconic.
The Tsuge pipe manufacturing workshop was founded in the 1930s by Kyoichiro Tsuge in Japan.
Thus was born what began as a cigarette holder factory and is now Japan's largest and most advanced pipe manufacturer.
Its pipe manufacturing workshops are located in Tokyo and the Asakusa district.
Japanese Tsuge pipes have an undeniable international approach; other Tsuge pipes, with their metal finishes, bamboo accents, and refined lacquering, are more decidedly Japanese.
But what all the models have in common is a consistent, meticulous, and dogged pursuit of perfection.
Kyoichiro always sought it, and his heirs tenaciously pursue it.
The Tsuge System Calabash pipe reimagines the traditional calabash pipe, both in terms of its design and the introduction of a briar smoke chamber and a briar bowl.
The Tsuge System Calabash, following the concept already introduced by the Tsuge Roulette, creates the modern calabash, complete with a cap to hold the tobacco before smoking.
The Tsuge System Calabash is the forerunner of today's reverse calabash pipes, with a special addition.
The pipe's handcrafted briar foot features a space, similar to that found in calabash pipes, for smoke expansion and moisture collection.
This space creates an expansion chamber for the smoke.
The expansion chamber can be filled with aromatic tobacco, which doesn't come into contact with the burning tobacco but releases sweet aromas as the smoke passes through.
Either with special stones or left empty, this expansion chamber captures the odor that develops when damp pipe tobacco burns.
The Tsuge System Calabash line is the modern 20th-century calabash, produced with more modern materials and technology and featuring a cap that screws over the bowl.
This metal screw cap allows you to carry the loaded pipe without spilling tobacco in your pockets.
When you're ready to smoke, simply unscrew the top cap and screw it onto the pipe's foot.
The pipe's mouthpiece is made of methacrylate and accommodates a 9 mm filter.
The futuristic design is a combination of two materials: traditional sandblasted briar and metal for the threads and ferrules.
The doublin bowl is made of natural sandblasted briar and screws onto the pipe's base.
This Tsuge System Calabash pipe promises smooth, dry smoking, as well as being comfortable given its perfect size and lightweight.
An additional advantage of the Tsuge System Calabash is the ability to disassemble it for easy cleaning.
Each Tsuge Japanese pipe is unique and one-of-a-kind; the exterior finish may vary slightly from the image, as each briar pipe is unique.
The variations are only in the shades of the briar; the dimensions and shape remain unchanged.
