The Peterson Arklow 124 Sandblasted Fishtail is the subject of debate among Irish tobacco pipe enthusiasts.
The manufacturer marks its shape with the number 124, corresponding to the curved Dublin shape. Upon closer inspection, this pipe doesn't appear curved, but its lines resemble the Chimney shape with a tall, slender bowl.
In this case, the slightly forward-bent bowl of the pipe takes on the Cutty name.
The Peterson Arklow 124 Sandblasted Fishtail is therefore a Chimney Cutty tobacco pipe, perfect for smoking flake tobacco!
With its tall, composed bowl, a slight forward lean, and well-balanced proportions, this Peterson "124" is easily one of the most slender shapes produced by the Irish company.
It's strongly reminiscent of their "268" Zulu model, but here the bowl is visibly longer and slightly more upright, more chimney-like, with greater depth in the combustion chamber.
The lack of sharp edges and the elegant proportions create a surprisingly refined interpretation of the classic Chimney shape, a departure from the squat, muscular shaping style typically associated with the historic Irish company Peterson.
Originally, the Arklow series was a limited edition Peterson, exclusive to the North American market.
For this reason, a Chimney Cutty pipe was designed, perfect for tasting Flake tobaccos.
However, in 2020, the line was reintroduced as part of the Irish brand's standard range.
The Arklow showcases Peterson's in-house sandblasting process, which uses an artisanal setting for more individual control over the finish of each pipe.
Dressed in a rustic walnut finish and featuring an army-style nickel ferrule and a fishtail mouthpiece, the Peterson Arklow line features pipes that highlight the natural patterns of boxwood in striking relief, beautifully combining rough and elegant aesthetics.
Peterson pipes, personally and exclusively handcrafted, are the fruit of long and painstaking work at their headquarters in south Dublin, home to one of the oldest pipe factories in the world: Peterson of Dublin.
Peterson Arklow pipes are characterized by their classic, harmonious shape, elegance, and practicality.
Peterson Arklow pipes are carved from the finest and most precious briar and embellished with a metal ferrule.
Note the sporty and bold design of this model; it is no coincidence that the shape derives from the Zulu.
The briar is enhanced by an 11 mm metal ferrule engraved with the Peterson logo.
The shape is a classic Chimney Cutty, a medium-sized pipe that's very comfortable to hold.
The mouthpiece lacks the 9 mm filter to reduce tobacco's harmful substances, and it does not feature Peterson's Standard System reservoir.
Each Peterson Irish pipe is unique and one-of-a-kind. The exterior finish may vary slightly from the image, as each briar pipe is unique.
Variations are limited to the shades of the briar; the dimensions and shape remain the same.
