The Chinquapin from Meikle Tòir is a single malt made with continental peat from St. Fergus, a sweeter and more grassy variety than that found on the coast.
The barley was peated to 35 ppm, and then the whisky was aged in a combination of first-fill bourbon casks and Spanish Chinquapin virgin oak casks.
"The Chinquapin One" is the finest expression of the Meikle Toir series, aged 5 years, designed to express the most direct and genuine side of the distillery's smoky profile without overshadowing the fruity matrix generated by the Spanish oak casks.
During the maturation period, the whisky remained in first-fill bourbon casks and Spanish Chinquapin virgin oak casks.
The Meikle Tòir range (meaning "big chase" and pronounced mee-kuhl tor) includes peated whisky produced at the GlenAllachie distillery under the guidance of legendary master distiller Billy Walker.
It is bottled at 48% ABV without chill filtration or additional coloring.
A beautifully clean, fragrant, smooth peat, with character but not excess, drinkable but not banal.
