The new Bruichladdich Octomore 16.1 edition—the world's most heavily peated whisky at 101.4 PPM—is a single malt aged for 5 years.
This is the 2025 annual edition of the Islay peated whisky Bruichladdich Octomore, designated 16.1.
This island single malt is richly peated, complex, and intense, yet possesses the great balance and elegance typical of the Bruichladdich distillery.
To produce Octomore 16.1, which reaches 101.4 PPM, the distillery used only organic, hard Scottish barley of the Concerto variety, grown by the distillery itself in Scotland.
Bruichladdich Octomore 16.1 was aged for 5 years in American oak ex-bourbon casks and bottled at a full strength of 59.3% ABV.
It offers a lingering finish with notes of smoked spices and a touch of oak; adding water—the so-called "angel's tears"—reveals hints of fruit and pastry cream.
Octomore 16.1 is one of the most iconic expressions of the "Super Heavily Peated Whisky" concept.
This Islay Single Malt Whisky combines extreme peaty intensity with surprising elegance.
Aged for 5 years, Octomore 16.1 is a whisky for enthusiasts and collectors. Presented in an elegant grey tube, it makes a gift that is always appreciated.
Tasting Notes:
Colour: Antique golden amber.
Aroma: A captivating sea spray brings waves of orchard fruits, delicate peat smoke, heather, and vanilla, followed by smoked peppers and iodine.
Palate: Delicate peat smoke opens up with salted caramel, melon, and apricot, mingled with chocolate, sea salt, coconut, and an earthy minerality.
Finish: Long and lingering; the signature peat smoke fades out with notes of sea salt, black pepper, and candy.
For a pairing with Bruichladdich Octomore 16.1 as an evening dram, we recommend Kentucky tobacco cigars—the only cigars capable of standing up to the intensity of this heavily peated Bruichladdich single malt!
