Hazelburn Oloroso Cask 7 Year Old is a distinctive Springbank expression, characterized by its triple distillation and a name inspired by a historic, now-closed Campbeltown distillery.
This limited edition—comprising just 9,000 bottles worldwide—has quickly earned a reputation as one of Campbeltown’s finest whiskies, thanks to its unparalleled quality and finesse.
History and Identity
The Hazelburn line is renowned for its triple distillation process, which gives the single malts a smooth, full-bodied, and rounded character.
The original Hazelburn distillery operated between 1825 and 1925; Springbank later revived the name to designate its premium triple-distilled whiskies.
Hazelburn releases matured in ex-Oloroso casks are particularly rare; Springbank is highly selective in their production, making each release a special event for collectors and enthusiasts.
Maturation and Character
Hazelburn 7 Year Old Oloroso Cask developed its complexity exclusively in casks that previously held Oloroso sherry—a style of sherry known for its aromatic and sweet qualities, which enrich the spirit with notes of dried fruit, honey, and warm spices.
Distilled in June 2018 and bottled in March 2026, this batch consists of 9,000 bottles released at a strength of 47.9% ABV.
True to Springbank tradition, the whisky is neither colored nor chill-filtered. It presents an intense and inviting hue.
What makes the difference:
Triple distillation: a smooth body and a silkier profile compared to twice-distilled single malts.
Exclusive maturation in ex-Oloroso casks: deep notes of dried fruit, candied orange, caramel, and sweet spices.
Limited edition (9,000 bottles): highly collectible.
No added color or chill-filtration: sensory authenticity and natural appearance.
Tasting Notes:
Serve at room temperature in a tulip-shaped glass or tasting copita.
A drop of water can open up secondary aromas without compromising the balance.
Color: deep amber.
Nose: dried fruit (walnuts, figs), notes of candied orange, honey, subtle vanilla, and hints of sweet spices.
Palate: smooth and rounded; honey, caramel, and dried plum, with an elegant, spicy undertone.
Finish: persistent and warm, with returning sherry notes and a slight tannic touch.
Ideal for contemplative sipping or as a collector's item.
