Potocki Vodka traces its origins to 1816, when founder Alfred I Potocki inherited the splendid Lancut Castle which included the second oldest distillery in Poland.
Lancut is located halfway between Krakow and Lvov.
Alfred I Potocki hired specialists to improve quality and increase production capacity. In 1838 he introduced liqueurs and syrups for which the Lancut distillery quickly achieved notoriety. In 1857 he obtained the special privilege of becoming supplier to the imperial court in Vienna.
Potocki Wódka today is distilled in a small facility surrounded by fields and forests and is known for its artisanal approach. The rye comes from the fields surrounding the distillery, while the must is distilled only twice, as any further step would unnecessarily deprive the alcohol of its character.
The distillate is tasted at regular intervals and selected only when optimal criteria are achieved. The resulting pure alcohol is diluted to the required strength and tasted again by Jan-Roman Potocki and the master distiller. The vodka is left to rest for a few days and then bottled without resorting to the usual carbon filtration.
The taste is smooth and slightly sweet at first, with a rich and creamy texture that envelops the mouth. In the finish, it turns into a long dry finish with notes of hazelnut, the characteristic taste of Polish rye vodka.
