González Byass is one of the most famous sherry bodegas in Spain.

It sells wines and spirits including the famous Lepanto brandy.

The Gonzàlez Byass company was founded in Jerez in 1835 by Manuel Maria Gonzàlez. At the young age of 23 he decided to dedicate himself to the production and marketing of wines and spirits.

In 1844 the first barrels of Tio Pepe were exported to London. The name TioPepe comes from the founder's uncle, José Àngel.

González Byass is one of the most famous sherry bodegas in Spain. Its origins date back to 1835, when it was founded by Manuel María González Angel, who was later joined by his English agent, Robert Blake Byass.

The business was further expanded by the second generation of the González family, including Manuel Críspulo González y Soto.

The González family took sole control of the business in 1988. The company produces the fino sherry Tío Pepe.

The González family was not only at the forefront of sherry winemaking, but also participated in the introduction of the game of polo in Spain, the first grass tennis court, the installation of the first electric lighting and running water in the factory, the first railway project in Spain and numerous other industrial and cultural innovations.

In 1862, when Queen Isabella II visited the company, the construction of a new bodega called La Concha was commissioned to engineer Gustav Eiffel.

In 1963 they built the large bodega Tío Pepe, with a capacity of 28,000 barrels and built on 3 floors. Another bodega was built in 1972, Las Copas, with a capacity of about 80,000 barrels.

In 1998, the Byass family withdrew from the company. The company is now owned and operated by the fourth and fifth generations of the González family, such as Mauricio González-Gordon y Díez.

In 2004, González Byass joined forces with Grupo Vips and opened 8 Tio Pepe restaurants in Madrid, but they were closed in 2011 due to the crisis. In 2008, the company acquired the well-known Viñas del Vero wineries.

The famous bottle with the sombrero and guitar became the classic image of the Tio Pepe brand in 1935.

The famous neon sign in Madrid's Puerta del Sol caused a bit of a stir when Apple bought the building and decided that the sign should be removed from the roof (presumably to replace it with the Apple logo).

The bodega found another roof in the same Puerta del Sol once again and the sign was reinstalled after the renovation.
