List of products by brand The Clydeside distillery
Active since 2017, Clydeside is the distillery that brought the production of Single Malt Scotch Whiskey back to the heart of the city of Glasgow.
Located in the docks, where the ancient hydraulic pump that moved the bascule bridge of the commercial port of Glasgow once stood, Clydeside is an independent distillery led by the Morrison family, already owners of Rattray and, in the 1970s, of Bowmore.
Founded in 2012 but only active since 2017, Clydeside represents the historic return of distillation to Glasgow, and its evocative location, overlooking the Clyde, is a clear tribute to the commercial history of the capital and the centrality of whiskey in Scottish and city culture.
The building where the distillery is located is part of the history of Glasgow, the pier (Queen's Dock) was built in 1877 by Morrison & Mason, the project also included a hydraulic pump capable of raising or lowering the bridge which served as access for the pier.
In 2011 the "Pump House" was bought by Tim Morrison, former Morrison Bowmore and owner of AD Rattray with the aim of converting it into a distillery and closing the circle, yes because Tim is none other than the great-grandson of John Morrison, the person who built the dock and water pump 134 years earlier.
Modern in look but deeply traditional in methods, this urban distillery uses exclusively Diablo and Laureate Scottish barley, grown in south-west Scotland.
The fermentation, 72 hours long, takes place at 19 degrees using Distillers yeasts.
The two stills, located in an incredibly suggestive room facing the river, have a capacity of 7500 and 5000 liters respectively, with a slightly different shape to produce a full-bodied but fruity spirit.
Clydeside production is limited, having reached a maximum of 450,000 liters per year in 2020.
The result is a fruity and intense whiskey, far from the stereotyped canons of Lowlands whiskey: indeed, with its delicately spiced notes it wants to reflect the past of Glasgow, a central city in the supply of tobacco and spices in the United Kingdom.
Among other things, the only edition permanently on the market is Stobcross: even if it will change over time, the property has decided not to divide by batch and not to release an inaugural bottling so as not to feed the secondary market and speculation, believing that one's job is to produce a whiskey to drink - and we can only appreciate it.
Directly from the banks of the Clyde River, where the distillery is located, here is the first release of Clydeside.
