The Japanese Yamazakura blended whiskeys are created with particular attention to softness, using the old distillation methods now almost completely abandoned by their Scottish masters.

Established in 1765, Sasanokawa Shuzo is a distillery based in Koriyama, Fukushima Prefecture, originally specializing in the production of sake and shochu.

If the first is known to most, the second is a distillate which, depending on the region of production, can be made with barley, sweet potatoes, rice, sesame, wheat or cane sugar; it is among the oldest drinks in Japan and the island of Kyushu is considered its homeland.

The distillery, however, has also been producing Whiskey since 1946, combining the peculiarities of the Japanese tradition with those of modernity.

Whiskey production in Japan began around 1870, but the first commercial production dates back to 1924, the year in which the country's first distillery opened; capable of leaving any connoisseur speechless, Japanese Whiskeys are created with particular attention to softness, using the old distillation methods now almost completely abandoned by their Scottish masters.

In less than a century, Japanese Whiskeys have reached the pinnacle of quality, so much so that they have been awarded at the San Francisco World Spirits Awards and the World Whiskeys Awards; the mild climate, the numerous springs and the presence of peat bogs, help to shape delicate, fragrant Whiskeys, sometimes smoked in the style of Islay Whiskey.

In particular, the Sasanokawa Shuzo, is known above all for the Yamazakura, Blended Japanese Whiskey whose name derives from the Japanese words yama, mountain, and sakura, cherry; intense, with notes of citrus, coconut, vanilla, toast and licorice, this Whiskey is made from a blend of corn (80%) and barley malt (20%) and is aged, for at least 16 years, in ex-bourbon barrels.

Its excellent quality certainly invites you to discover not only the other products of Sasanokawa Shuzo, but also all the other spirits of the Rising Sun, especially considering that, in 2014, the best Whiskey in the world was a Japanese one.
