Nikka Whiskey is a Japanese company producing whiskey and alcoholic beverages, headquartered in Tokyo.
The founder, Masataka Taketsuru, traveled to Scotland in 1918 to learn about the process of distilling Scotch whiskey. He studied organic chemistry at the University of Glasgow and produced whiskey malt at Hazelburn distilleries, near Fort William in the Highlands. He married a Scottish woman and returned to Japan in 1920. In 1934 he founded the Nikka distilleries.

Of the Nikka malt whiskey distilleries, Yoichi in Japan is the only one currently using the direct heating distillation method.
